Welcome!
DMV Food Recovery Week- October 16-22, 2022!
Manna Food Center’s Community Food Rescue (CFR) and the DC Food Recovery Working Group (DCFRWG) has combined forces with the Montgomery County Food Council and Prince George’s County Food Equity Council to co-host this year’s DMV Food Recovery Week. The global pandemic has revealed how much we need a more resilient food system – one that sustains the earth and provides sufficient, nutritious food for all who need it. The week’s engaging and enlightening free in-person and virtual events aim to help individuals and our community become more resilient. JOIN US for in-person and virtual events to learn easy things you can do at home – and ways to support community efforts – to reduce food waste and increase food security for all.

***Food Recovery During COVID-19***
Food assistance organizations are already facing higher demand for food. However, as restaurants close or alter their menus, events and catering orders are canceled, and offices are moving to 100% telework, there is a large amount of excess food that could be donated and needs to be placed with a food assistance organization very quickly. Food Rescue US- DC’s network of volunteers is ready to rescue that food and get it to the organizations who need it.
If you have food to donate or would like to volunteer to rescue food:
- Sign up via the Food Rescue US app (scroll to the bottom) or
- Email kate@foodrescue.us
- (Healthy!) volunteers with large vehicles are especially needed
For information about why to donate food and the benefits and protections for donors, please refer to Donating Excess Food During the COVID-19 National Emergency, and for information specific to the DC area, please refer to Food Recovery in the District of Columbia: A Legal Guide.
